Acelle AI credits explained: what they are and how a prompt gets spent

What AI credits are#

AI credits are the fuel for AcelleMail's AI tasks. Any time you ask the AI to do something — generate an email template, spin up a campaign from a short prompt, rewrite a subject line, or turn a plain-English description into a segment — that work runs on credits.

A couple of concrete examples of what "an AI task" means in practice:

• Generate an email template. Describe the email you want and get a ready-to-edit template back, instead of starting from a blank canvas.
• Build a campaign from a prompt. Hand the AI a one-line brief ("a re-engagement email to subscribers who haven't opened in 90 days, friendly tone") and it drafts the campaign for you to review.
• Rewrite or improve copy. The ✨ sparkle button next to any rich-text field improves, shortens, expands, or fixes the tone of what you've written.

One thing worth knowing up front: AI in AcelleMail is a plugin, not part of core. AcelleMail core ships with no built-in AI. You add the optional Acelle AI plugin, and that is what surfaces the sparkle button, the agent chatbox, and the coach panels throughout the app. AI credits are what those surfaces draw down when they run a task.

Which plans include AI credits#

AI credits come bundled with the support plans. There are four tiers, and the amount of AI credit steps up as you go:

So the rule of thumb is simple: AI credits are available from Plus and above. If you're on Essential and want to use the AI tasks, moving up to Plus is what switches them on. Each higher tier raises the per-cycle allotment — Plus is the entry point, Pro gives you an extended bucket for teams running campaigns weekly, and Max carries the largest bucket for long-term, high-volume use.

Your AI credit is an entitlement on the plan itself — it refreshes each billing cycle. You don't buy credits as a separate SKU to make the AI work; picking a plan from Plus upward is what grants them.

How a task turns into spend#

Every time you run one of those AI tasks, it consumes a certain amount of credit — and the amount scales with the size of the task. A small job costs a little; a big one costs more:

• A single sparkle rewrite or a short chatbox question is a small amount of credit.
• A long, multi-step job — say, an agent that reads your campaign, fans out to several tools, and assembles a full flow — costs more, because there's simply more work happening under the hood.

Here's what happens when you press the button. The AI surface takes your input — your prompt, plus the relevant context from the screen you're on — and pushes it up to the Acelle Hub, a service endpoint whose whole job is to process AI tasks. The Hub does the heavy lifting and sends the result back, and the credit is drawn from your current cycle's balance.

Two details that matter in day-to-day use:

• You only pay for work that lands. If a task fails partway — a timeout, an engine error — it doesn't burn your balance. The credit is spent on a successful result, not on the attempt.
• You can watch it in real time. The admin AI usage dashboard shows per-task spend as it happens, so the balance is never a black box.

What the Acelle Hub is actually doing#

This is the part that makes the credits go further than they look.

Acelle isn't running its own AI model. Under the hood, the Acelle Hub is a proxy that connects to the strongest AI engines available — the same Claude and GPT-class models you'd reach for directly. You're getting frontier-model quality; Acelle isn't asking you to settle for something weaker.

But the Hub is more than a pass-through. Sitting in front of those engines, it does three things on every request:

1. It holds AcelleMail's knowledge base. The Hub is where the system's own knowledge about AcelleMail lives — how campaigns, lists, templates, and deliverability actually work in this product. That context is added for you, so the engine answers as an AcelleMail expert rather than a general-purpose chatbot.
2. It optimizes the input size and context of each request. Instead of forwarding a bloated prompt, the Hub trims and shapes what gets sent — enough context to get a great answer, not a byte more. Smaller, sharper requests cost less to run.
3. It queries Acelle's built-in libraries to improve the outcome. Where a ready-made building block already exists in Acelle, the Hub reaches for it instead of asking the engine to reinvent it — better results, less model work.

The combined effect: in our own testing, routing a task through the Acelle Hub comes out roughly 3× to 8× cheaper than sending the same job straight to Claude or GPT yourself. That figure is a first-party, relative measurement — it varies by task and is a ballpark, not a guarantee — but the direction is consistent, and it's the reason a plan's credit bucket stretches across far more real work than the raw model price would suggest.

Why this is a good deal#

Put the three pieces together and here's what you're actually getting when you spend an Acelle AI credit:

• You're running on top of the strongest AI engines — not a weaker in-house substitute.
• Your request arrives pre-loaded with AcelleMail context and trimmed to size, so the answer is sharper and the run is leaner.
• And you're doing it at a fraction of the cost of wiring up a raw model API and paying per token yourself.

Strongest engine, optimized context, minimal cost — that's the whole point of the credit model.

Common questions#

Do I need my own OpenAI or Anthropic key? No. Using Acelle AI credits means the Acelle Hub handles the engine connection for you — no keys, no separate model bill, no balance to top up somewhere else. (If you prefer to run your own key, the AI plugin supports that too, but then you're managing that engine and its cost yourself, not spending credits.)

What happens when my AI credits run out for the cycle? The AI tasks stop until your balance refreshes at the next billing cycle, or until you move to a higher tier with a larger allotment. Your other AcelleMail features are unaffected — only the AI surfaces draw on this balance.

Does Essential include any AI credits? No. Essential covers priority support, install/upgrade help, and product updates. AI credits start at Plus.

Is my data used to train the AI? No. Prompts and responses are used to generate your result and are logged in your own AcelleMail database for the usage dashboard — they aren't used to train models. See the AI plugin page and your privacy policy for the specifics.
